Information for Business Customers in Kent

The recent hot weather has put pressure on water resources across the country. In particular Southern Water and South East Water are experiencing very high demand for water across Kent. This, combined with some leaks on the network, is causing some low pressure and supply issues for customers.

The Water Retail Company is monitoring the situation and contacting clients who are most likely to be impacted. We are also in constant dialogue with Southern Water and South East Water. Their teams are working hard across Kent to keep customers in supply without interruptions. But they saw the demand for water shoot up by over 15% across the bank holiday weekend.

The majority of customers in Kent remain in supply, as normal, and Southern Water and South East are working to keep water flowing and support the network and are using tankers to top up low reservoir levels. However, we have had some reports of reduced pressure and localised issues.

Therefore, on behalf of Southern Water and South East Water, we’re asking for our business customers help to use water extra wisely. Small changes can have a big impact, and this really does help. Especially over the next few days while the weather remains very hot.

Some simple actions business customers may wish to consider include:

  • Reducing or rescheduling high water-use activities where possible
  • Reviewing operational processes for temporary efficiencies
  • Reinforcing water-saving messages with your teams

And these water efficiency messages apply across the whole country, especially during the warm weather, so for year round water saving and water efficiency advice, support, audits, and grants for all businesses, visit our water efficiency webpage here or give us a call.

If you are a business customer and have any issues or concerns, interruptions in supply, or low pressure, please feel free to contact us (even if you aren’t our customer), or check the South East Water website here or Southern Water website here for information and updates.
